For too long, the story of Islam and of Muslim Australians has been told by others. Too often it comes in a few heavily edited seconds on the evening news, an article in a major newspaper completely distorting the truth and/or the context, or a comments’ section flooded by bots. Minaret Media is our chance to tell that story ourselves, in full and in our own words.

We’re here to inform, connect and uplift. Minaret Media is made for families, students, elders, business owners and everyone who calls our community home. It’s free and it’s online. And it doesn’t depend on social media platforms that too often bury our voices.

Our promise is simple: we’ll tell it as it is. That means celebrating the professionals, academics, entrepreneurs, community figures and everyday Australian Muslims who make our community what it is. It also means being honest about the challenges we face and focusing on how we fix them together.

Minaret Media is an initiative of the Lebanese Muslim Association (LMA), with a dedicated, experienced team committed to fair, honest reporting and guided above all by you, our readers.

What’s in our first edition

We launch at a serious time for our nation. After the recent, shocking attack on Dr Helen Haines, we call for prayer, respect and calm, not a blame game that only deepens division. And as a shooting near Paris, a massacre at a Jordanian church and the emptying of southern Lebanon fill the headlines, we argue that if a mosque and a church can stand side by side, so must we all stand against hatred. Extremism belongs to no single faith.

Closer to home, we ask why a man who raped a four-year-old girl could be paroled in six years, and why inadequate sentencing is failing Australian children. We also explain why the recent death threats against Anne Aly MP show that every Islamophobic incident must be reported.

In opinion, Maria Poulos of the Australia Palestine Advocacy Network (APAN) is drawing the red line. She asks why Australia’s laws aren’t strong enough to stop Australian money, weapons and trade from supporting genocide, war crimes and illegal occupation. She also makes the case for the Red Lines Package now before Federal Parliament.

In faith, we share key messages from renowned international speaker Dr Yasir Qadhi’s sermon to a packed Lakemba Mosque. We were also there for a full house as three of the world’s finest Qaris graced Maide-i Qur’an 2026 at Bankstown’s Bryan Brown Theatre. In The Converts’ Circle, an inspirational brother tells how Islam gave him the purpose, peace and brotherhood he’d always been searching for. And if you’ve got a few hours a fortnight to spare, Love, Learn, Live Islam explains why NSW schools need volunteers like you to teach Muslim children through the ISRE Program.

We report on three major milestones inside three months as the LMA’s national expansion builds momentum: a new regional mega-mosque, a foothold in Adelaide’s CBD and a VCAT win in Melbourne. We also tell you the story of Feed The World and the community behind it.

We celebrate some high achievers in the medical and business fields, while the Diet Doctor explains why your gut is your first brain and what the prophetic way of eating teaches us.

For sports lovers, we go inside the Padel phenomenon sweeping Sydney’s Muslim community, a sport that has gone from unknown to unmissable. The Boys Oztag Gala Day returns with $1000 prizes and support for Yemen. And we tackle the burning question football fans from the UK to western Sydney are asking: Manchester City, champs or cheats?

You’ll also hear fresh voices on our Young Muslim Author page. Don’t miss our podcasts either, with plenty of food for thought from well-known community figures.

This is your platform. Here’s how you can help build it:

  • Subscribe for free and add us to your contacts so you never miss the latest news, emailed fortnightly.
  • Tell three friends and ask them to join the mailing list.
  • Send us a Letter to the Editor (300 words maximum). Agree with us or challenge us, we want to hear it.
  • Tell us about anything that might be worth writing about, wherever you live.
  • Fancy yourself as a writer? Get in touch. We want to help you find your voice.
  • Consider ethical advertising for your business or product to help keep Minaret Media free for everyone.

Minaret Media is also your chance to tell the LMA what it’s doing right, what it could do better and how its services can be improved.

We won’t get everything right straight away, and we won’t please everyone. With your participation, your ideas, your feedback and your duas, though, we’ll make Minaret Media a trusted home for news, faith and community life for many years to come.

Jazak Allah khairan.
