Metamorphosis Coaching and Human Appeal Australia are joining forces once again for the annual Boys Oztag Gala Day at Vale of Ah Reserve, Milperra, on Sunday, 29 November – and this year the stakes are higher both on and off the field.
Southwest Sydney’s favourite day of junior Oztag returns from 9am to 5pm on the last Sunday of November, with $1000 in prize money up for grabs in each of four age divisions: Under 12s, Under 14s, Under 16s and Under 18s.
Trophies will also be presented to the winning teams.
But much of the focus of the day will be thousands of kilometres away.
Five dollars from every $50 player registration will go to Human Appeal Australia’s Yemen Emergency Relief Campaign, which is delivering urgent aid such as food, clean water and shelter to communities affected by the country’s ongoing humanitarian crisis.
“Your support and impact will travel far beyond the field,” Human Appeal said in a statement.
“By donating to this cause, you become a lifeline for families in desperate need.”
The Gala Day is the brainchild of Metamorphosis Coaching founders Faz Rana and his wife, Jahida El-Assaad, who have turned the event into an eagerly-awaited fixture on the community calendar.
Last November, the event drew well over 300 participants for the second year running, along with sidelines crammed with parents, siblings and grandparents.
Faz, a respected educator and Deputy Principal at Unity Grammar College, recently helped Lebanon’s Over 35s side reach the quarter-finals of the Tag World Cup, finishing in the world’s top five.
“Sport teaches us that you won’t always get the result you want, but every setback is an opportunity to grow, learn and come back better,” he reflected at the Cup’s conclusion.
For Faz, the scoreboard has never been the main measure of success, whether it’s in his personal sporting activities or when talking about events like the boys Oztag Gala.
“We design the day around character as much as competition,” he said.
“If a kid leaves with more confidence and even one new friend, then we’ve all won.”

That philosophy was on full display in 2025: players shaking hands after tight finishes, captains thanking referees and teams tidying up their areas between games.
“That’s leadership without a microphone,” Faz said at the time, “and it’s what turns an event into a community.”
At the close of last year’s event, Faz and Jahida promised to make the 2026 Gala Day even bigger and better.
The introduction of a prize money boost in every division, alongside a direct charity contribution from every registration, delivers on that pledge.
It also reflects the couple’s belief that sport can teach young people to look beyond themselves – a lesson that this year will translate into real help for families in Yemen.
With hundreds of young athletes expected, families are encouraged to make a day of it, bring their voices and get behind the boys and the cause.
